"Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life" - Picasso
Beneath the busyness of life flow deep, energetic impulses, creative currents, passions, and inspired communion. Too often the to-do lists and future plans distract from the soulful, nourishing life that can "currently" be enjoyed moment by moment. Yoga East Healing Arts studio is a unique space in which the meditative practices of yoga and creative expression are naturally and profoundly intertwined.
We invite you to slow down and allow these "currents" to soothe your busy mind, bring awareness and open you to a more creative flow. Art & Soul Currents introduce yoga postures and artful practices that transform stress into creative energy and inspire self-expression. In a supportive, non-competitive setting we invite expression in many forms, including song, story, interpretive dance, journaling, traditional craft and expressive art. Engaging in such nurturing daily practice can quiet the mind, sift through the clutter and create space for expansion, expression and playful possibility.
Workshops are offered every fourth Saturday of the month, beginning March 22nd. Please visit the studio website to register for monthly workshops and yoga classes at http://www.yogaeasthealingarts.com

Nourishing the Creative Life
A quote from Clarissa Pinkola Estes:
"Creativity is a shapechanger. One moment it takes this form, the next that. It is like a dazzling spirit who appears to us all, yet is hard to describe for no one agrees on what they saw in that brilliant flash. Are the wielding of pigments and canvas, or paint chips and wallpaper, evidence of its existence? How about pen and paper, flower borders on the garden path, building a university? Yes, yes. Ironing a collar well, cooking up a revolution? Yes. Touching with love the leaves of a plant, pulling down "the big deal," tying off the loom, finding one's voice, loving someone well? Yes. Catching the hot body of the newborn, raising a child to adulthood, helping raise a nation from its knees? Yes. Tending to a marriage like the orchard it is, digging for psychic gold, finding the shapely word, sewing a blue curtain? All are of the creative life. All these things are from the Wild Woman --the Rio Abajo Rio, the river beneath the river-- which flows and flows into our lives.
Some say the creative life is in ideas, some say it is in doing. It seems in most instances to be in a simple being. It is not in virtuosity, although that is very fine in itself. It is the love of something, having so much love for something --whether a person, a word, an image, an idea, the land, or humanity-- that all that can be done with the overflow is to create. It is not a matter of wanting to, not a singular act of will; one solely must."

Studio classes postponed until August
It's summertime! At the conclusion of this week, school semesters come to a close and we all get to take some time for more leisurely activities at a more leisurely pace. With this slowing of schedules comes the opportunity to stop and smell the roses, and truly observe the people and things around us. Being attentive and observant is key to developing artistic skills. We must take time to observe and understand to meaningfully interpret the world around us.
So when you find yourself on a family camping trip, watching images flash by on a road trip, sitting poolside or watching a baseball game, have a sketch book with you and practice recording things that you notice, things that are interesting, anything you can see around you. In your interpretation of those things, in your attentive observance of those things, they take on a meaningful and sometimes magical quality. Look for it. You will find it.
Have a wonderfully magical summer! I look forward to more magical artistic adventures with you this fall.
Kelly
