I woke at 4:10, went back to sleep for an hour, then shut off the alarm on the phone and got up to shower. From the little open window, I could see the start of a sunrise on the surface of the water. I briefly considered a skinny dip, but instead dressed and began to pack, careful not to wake Chip, who seemed intent on squeezing every last moment of sleep from the morning before the long drive ahead.

Parting is such sweet sorrow...

The trip home went smoothly. With no cross words, we all seemed to be savoring the bliss and inner energy that comes from living outdoors in bug-free temperate sunshine, feeling relaxed and recharged and satiated by happiness. With only a one-hour stop for lunch at Wild Wings, we made it home in record time.

The following day was spent sleeping in, unloading the car, washing clothes, surveying the garden and fruit trees, and eventually driving Sierra to Girl scout camp for a week of her own adventures...

I am grateful for our comfortable home, but there is nothing like living at the lake with loved ones. It's pure bliss.
